As studied in maths every shape has a border line which and an area which falls inside the shape. In mathematics it is essential to study about shapes, areas, units and measurements. Understanding of shapes not only helps us enhance the subject but is useful in our day to day lives. The most important thing that you need to understand while studying geometry is that, you can use this subject all around the world by emphasizing on shapes. There are a lot of shapes in geometry- square, triangle, rectangle, circle, pentagon, hexagon, parallelogram, rhombus, etc. Today let is study about the triangle.

What is a triangle?

A triangle can be defines as a geometrical figure with three straight lines and three angles. A triangle can be termed as a polygon with three edges and three vertices. It is considered to be one of the basic shapes of geometry. A vertex is considered to be the edge of the triangle. The base of the triangle can be any one side of the shape. An altitude of the triangle, is a line from the base to the vertex. A median is the mid line that is from the base to the centre of the other opposite side. A triangle as an area and perimeter. Today let’s learn how to find the perimeter of the triangle.

Understanding how to find the perimeter of the triangle.

What is a perimeter? A perimeter is the border of the triangle. In order words it is the addition of all sides of the triangle. It is known as the distance around the triangle.

Let’s know how to find perimeter of a triangle shape with the help of the following examples:

Like any other polygon shape, the perimeter of a triangle is the total distance around the outside, which can be found by adding together the length of each side.

Here the triangle is named triangle ABC. This triangle has sides AB, side BC and side CA.

To find out the perimeter of the triangle, consider the triangle to be an equilateral triangle (all sides are the same). Side AB= 5cm

Hence the perimeter here will be, (Side AB) + (Side BC) + (Side CA)
5 + 5 + 5= 15cm.

Hence the perimeter of the triangle is 15 cm. If the triangle was scalene ( No side equal)
(Side AB) = 5 (Side BC) = 7 (Side CA) =2
(Side AB) + (Side BC) + (Side CA) = 5 + 7 + 2 = 14

The perimeter of the triangle is 14 cm.
