In Maths, Mean is used to find a central value for a range of numbers. It is a type of average.
Mean Maths Definition
For a given set of numbers, Mean is the total of the number divided by the count of the numbers in the set.
Calculation:
In order to calculate the mean of a set of numbers just find the sum of the numbers and divide by count.
Example:
To find the mean of { 2, 3, 7, 8, 10 }
Sum of the numbers = 2 + 3 +7 + 8 + 10 = 30
Count of the number = 5
Mean = Sum/ Count = 30 / 5 = 6
Note: The mean may not always be a whole number, you may also get a decimal number as the result of the division.

Mode: Mode is the value that occurs most often in the given set of numbers. So in the set { 12, 12, 13, 14, 15 }, the mode is 12. In case the set does not have any repetitive number, then there is no mode in the set.
Median: Median is the middle value in the list of numbers. To find the median, you will first need to arrange your numbers in ascending order and then pick the middle number.
In the set { 12, 12, 13, 14, 15 }, there are 5 numbers in the list so the median is the middle number that is 13.
Range: The range of a set of numbers is the difference between its largest number and the smallest number.
In the set { 12, 12, 13, 14, 15 }, the largest number is 15 and the smallest number is 12, so the range is calculated as 15  12 = 3

Question: David scored the following marks in 5 out of his tests: 75, 50, 75, 100, 90. If all the tests were out of 100, what is the average (mean) of the marks scored by David?

Sum of the marks scored by David: 390
Total number of tests: 5
Mean score: 390 / 5 = 78

A teacher gives grades to students depending on the mean of their scores in 3 tests. Scores above 80 get an A grade, Scores above 60 get a B grade and scores less than 60 get a C grade. Can you find out what grades will the following students get?
